Background
Auth0 is an identity and access management (IAM) platform that empowers developers to easily add authentication and authorization to their apps and APIs. I joined their brand team to lead digital design shortly before its acquisition by Okta, then went on to lead art direction and web design systems through its multiple brand evolutions.

As Auth0 scaled rapidly from a fast-growing startup to an enterprise-powered leader in the market, business demands evolved constantly, informed leadership’s priorities for our digital experiences and often required quick turn-arounds for launch.
Our team proactively drove projects towards more holistic content strategies and visual storytelling for the site. We found the most fruitful collaborations to be with our friends in Auth0’s product design team, whose deep insights from their own extensive user research and creative background fostered a shared vision for our dev-focused experiences.
One of the largest projects we tackled was a redesign of the Auth0 blog, which our team ran from end-to-end with research, workshops for competitive analysis and requirements from stakeholders, finally launching globally with a new filters, light/dark modes to match product documentation, improved author pages, code syntax for developer experience, and more.

When I joined in early 2021, Auth0 had a strong foothold in the developer community as a disruptor in the IAM industry, supported by strong product-led growth initiatives (PLG) along with excellent community engagement and developer marketing teams. I supported many fun projects that leaned into the quirky developer community for events and related swag.

Auth0’s own brand evolution coming directly before the acquisition by Okta was followed by numerous larger strategic changes over the subsequent two years which resulted in many different lifecycles for the brand but gave our design teams opportunity to explore different styles and ideas while still adhering to the shifting guidance quarter to quarter.

From a bottoms-up dev startup to an enterprise-grade industry leader joining forces with Okta, my focus on design systems stayed true, to provide design solutions at scale for a more cohesive digital ecosystem and growing GTM strategy.

As we continued to integrate more with Okta, my work leading both design systems led to unified approach with a singular design system for both sites I called Oktave, where the Auth0 patterns, components and guidelines existed within a library and UI kit called ‘DevX’, short for ‘developer experience’.

I would be remiss to not also feature of some earlier work from my first year at Auth0 when we still had the original brand evolution rolling out across our site. This time benefitted from more direct collaboration with our friends in product design, which I still believe led to some of our most successful ventures in visual storytelling and delightful experiences.

Growing from a Senior Visual Designer until my eventual promotion to Art Director working on and overseeing both sites and owning a whole design system for the first time, Auth0 was truly a journey I am eternally grateful for. Being embedded amongst a diverse team of immensely talented designers and creatives inspired me constantly.
